The HNSW Futures Academy is the new pathway strategy for all hockey athletes in NSW. In the Sydney Metro area, Hockey NSW is collaborating with its Sydney Metro member Associations, including Sydney East, to provide comprehensive performance support for the NSW hockey pathway. Spanning across the year, the program will encompass athletes across age groups of 14s, 16s, 18s and 21s.
Sydney East’s Hockey NSW-identified athletes will be provided with automatic access to the Sydney East Hockey Association Futures Academy. Because of its alignment with the HNSW Futures Academy, it forms a part of the selection process for our final field state teams for 2024. The program allows for selection data to be collected over a 4–6-month period.
Sydney East will also make positions available in the Academy to non-identified athletes subject to the capacity of the Academy. Positions for non-identified athletes will be decided through a process of working with clubs to identify athletes, based on the assessment criteria provided in the Sydney East Representative Policy.
The Sydney East Future Academy will commence its first 8-week program in October 2023 for U14, U16 and U18 athletes. U21 athletes are currently out of scope for this phase of the Sydney east Futiures Academy.
The program will include an on-field component as well as a strength and conditioning component. The program also includes access to the XPS app which will be provided by Hockey NSW to track athlete development. Future programs will incorporate new streams of relevant development areas.
